Project description
Children and youth from socially disadvantaged communities rarely have access to skill building and personal development opportunities. There is a limited provision of targeted education to build social skills, enhance public participation and instill a sense of responsibility for yourself and others. Young people are not aware of their own capacity to make a difference in their community and do not engage in initiatives to help peers from poorer countries and regions. Activity centres do not provide exposure to broader global issues such as environment, water conservation, nature conservation, responsible shopping, recycling or economic interdependencies.
The project aimed at developing civic attitudes among young people through addressing global themes in Kolping activity centres.
As a result of the project, 214 children in seven activity centres in Chełmek, Jarosław, Kłodawa Gdańska, Maków Podhalański, Oświęcim, Poręba Żegota and Sosnowiec were trained to engage in local community initiatives and gained exposure to global issues and their ramifications.
The project offered 925 hours of education sessions for children in seven activity centres. Project participants organised nine information campaigns in their local communities; Basic Trainer Skills and Good Practice Guide was published; 21 community developers were trained to deliver education on global issues; global issues education curricula for activity centres were developed and a festival of global education was organised.
Project beneficiaries included children and youth aged 7-18 from 7 Kolping activity centres.
The partner organisation, ZNAK Christian Culture Foundation, trained community developers on the provision of education in the area of global issues and produced the Basic Trainer Skills and Good Practice Guide.
