Project description
Information on institutions, organisations, centres important for blind people are insufficient in the tri-city (Gdynia, Gdańsk and Sopot ) area. There are no comprehensive information on places where blind persons can receive necessary support or be serviced according to their needs. The knowledge of assistance institution workers in this field is unsystematic and haphazard. As a result, it is hard to function for blind persons, and it is hard to effectively give help, cooperate and launch joint initiatives and projects for assistance organisations and institutions. The aim of the project was to make it easier for blind persons to have access to systematic information on institutions that are important to them in their everyday life. Under the project, an Internet base of centres was created where address data and additional information can be found on the offer for blind persons in Gdynia, Gdańsk and Sopot. The data are divided territorially and thematically (e.g. healthcare, rehabilitation, certification, education, social assistance, public offices, legal aid, culture and entertainment, sports and tourism). While preparing the database, the relevant entities were identified, survey questionnaires were sent to them, and the entities were directly contacted. Based on the data gathered, profiles of 250 entities were created, and then they were grouped territorially and thematically. The database is adapted to the needs of blind and visually impaired persons. Direct beneficiaries of the project are blind and visually impaired persons from the tri-city area.
