Project description
When the project started, in the municipality of Strzyżów there was no afterschool programs addressed to young people aiming to develop their activities in the local community (in 2007-2012 only one such project was implemented and only 2 out of 24 NGOs were working for the benefit of the youth). At the same time, the activities undertaken by the Foundation show that many young people are willing to get involved in the community life and the number of cooperating volunteers proves it. The survey carried out by the Foundation in the Strzyżów municipality shows that 53 per cent of the young people are willing to be involved in activities addressed to their community, but 70 per cent do not know what they could actually do.
The aim of the project was to improve public participation of young people in the municipality of Srzyżów and to increase the youth participation in making decisions related to their community.
Thanks to the project implementation, 7 youth groups were created to undertake cooperation with adults (including student governments and Youth Town Council) and they are now developing and implementing social projects in their towns and villages.
31 girls and 14 boys from 7 secondary schools took part in a training cycle on how to implement community projects and in training on participation in civic life. They made educational and promotional videos that they showed in their schools and they designed and implemented 7 projects, which involved their schools and local communities. Debates, meetings and a conference were organized with the aim to develop the youth policy in the municipality and in the district. 28 adults completed training on how to develop tools for working with the youth. A brochure on active methods of working with young people was published. Recommendations were worked out for developing public participation: “Active youth in favourable environment"
ILDI (consulting company) from Iceland - the project partner - cooperated in developing the tools and training programmes related to getting the youth involved in activities addressed to local communities.
