Project description
Young people from smaller towns in Poland do not feel motivated to be pro-active. They are often convinced that the town they live in is worse than a big city (“Equalizing educational opportunities – methodological guide” 2011). That is why they do not get involved in the local community life, they do not see the point of undertaking any activities. Young people do not cooperate with adults because they are afraid of moralising, of being criticised for what they do, imposing ideas. (Report “Youth” 2011).
The aim of the project was to increase participation of young people, including councillors from the Youth Town Council, in shaping the environment in a Mazovian municipality of Grójec.
The project implementation enabled working out, with active participation of young people, principles for cooperation of the Youth Town Council in Grójec with the City Council. 13 young people were prepared for
working together with adults on joint activities in the community.
A group of 13 young people participated in free workshop sessions, which ended up with implementing two initiatives addressed to Grójec inhabitants. Young people also took part in workshops on peer-to-peer education (15 people) and then they themselves conducted workshops for their peers in secondary schools on running local community projects.
13 adult tutors/facilitators took part in two-day training course on tutoring and coaching working methods. Together with young people, they implemented three initiatives addressed to the local community.
The project beneficiaries were secondary schools students from the Grójec town and municipality.
