Project description
In Poland, the system for counteracting gender-related violence is not sufficiently efficient. The National Programme for Counteracting Violence in Families for 2014-2020 and the Ministry of Education programme „Safe and friendly school for 2014-2016” lack the gender and diversity perspectives. Poor quality of the system is indicated in the Supreme Audit Office report from 2013. Also no education program is implemented for women and girls, focused on empowerment and building skills to react to violence (the report „Big Absentee”, the Society for Anti-discrimination Education, 2011).
The aim of the project was to develop tools helping to empower women and to implement amendments in the anti-violence programmes to take into account the gender and diversity perspectives. 24 trainers of WenDo were couched from 21 organisations and institutions. Activities of an advocacy group were initiated to lobby for inclusion of anti-discrimination perspective in the anti-violence programmes.
11 training reunions of the WenDo Academy were organised. Participants conducted 13 WenDo trainings for women and girls. 12 anti-violence events were organised in Kraków and its suburbs, as well as a nationwide campaign 16 Days including 37 different events. The handbook on the role of empowerment in preventing violence against women and girls was partially financed. The works of 17-person advocacy group were initiated, acting for inclusion of anti-discrimination perspective in anti-violence programmes.
The project benefited 24 women who graduated from the WenDo Training Academy. 2900 persons participated in anti-violence events. Through a newsletter, materials on violence against women reached 1800 persons. At least 500 persons got acquainted with the handbook. 130 girls and women participated in WenDo workshops.
The partner organisations, the Positive Change Foundation and the Association Venus of Milo Zone, supported advocacy activities and the promotion of the Academy and the 16 Days Campaign.
