Info meeting in Warsaw

Over 50 representatives of NGOs took part in the info meeting about the Citizens for Democracy programme, that was held on Monday, September 23 at Batory Foundation. Anna Rozicka, director of the programme and Alicja Garlińska- Cieślak, manager of the grant team explained the main rules and regulations of the programme and answered numerous questions from the floor.

No Hate Speech workshops in Warsaw

On September 19-20, the Batory Foundation with the Polish Children and Youth Foundation held the first workshops for youth bloggers against hate speech in the Internet. It was attended by 20 activists from the whole country. The workshops were  a part of the No Hate Speech Movement  – the campaign run by the Council of Europe and were organized within the Citizens for Democracy programme.

Citizens for Democracy programme oficially opened!

– There is no citizen without democracy and no democracy without citizen. Thinking today about the beginnings of our democracy, we are proud of what has Poland achieved. But that freedom gained 25 years ago requires further development.   Our citizens are not empowered enough. This must be changed and it is the role of this programme – said Jacek Michałowski, Head of the Chancellery the President of the Republic of Poland during the launching conference of the Citizens for Democracy Programme, financed by the EEA Funds.

Launching conference

The Stefan Batory Foundation and the Polish Children and Youth Foundation invite organizations to participate in the opening conference of Citizens for Democracy programme which will be held on September 18-19, 2013 at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

During the conference, attended by the representatives of Polish, Norwegian and Icelandic organizations, we will discuss the role of NGOs in: increasing involvement of citizens in public affairs and dialogue with public institutions; promotion of openness, transparency and accountability of public institutions; combating discrimination, intolerance and hate speech; counteracting social exclusion; and enhancing civic education of children and youth. The conference will be followed by workshops for NGOs planning to apply for a grant in partnership with their peers from the Donor States.
